CCA 2019 – Hilton Head Island – Call for Proposals

Carolinas Communication Association Call for Proposals – CCA19

Deadline: May 8, 2019

Conference Theme: Sustainability

Carolinas Communication Association invites submissions for presentation at the CCA Annual Conference, September 27-28, 2019 in Hilton Head Island, SC.  CCA invites papers of all methods and interests for presentation at a regional conference representing scholars from North and South Carolina and around the region. All are welcome.

Sustainability can be defined as the practice of meeting the needs of the current generation without degrading or destroying the natural resources and natural services that future generations will also need (Burndtland Report, 1987). Hilton Head Island, SC is known as an exemplary sustainable resort destination preserving the environment, people, and culture of the island. As communication scholars, we are also continuously seeking to make our research, programs, and discipline sustainable in an ever-changing academic landscape. Hence, this year’s theme is Sustainability. CCA encourages submissions related to the theme, but it is not required.

Carolinas Communication Association will accept the following submission types: Individual Papers, Paper Sessions, Panel Discussions, GIFTS INC, Undergraduate Poster. CCA also sponsors Top Paper Awards for the top undergraduate student paper, the top graduate student paper, and the top faculty paper presented at the conference.

CCA is a supportive and welcoming venue for student paper presentations from both graduate and undergraduate students. We encourage individual paper and paper sessions submissions, as well as undergraduate poster submissions, from students across the Carolinas and throughout the region.

Individual Papers: Papers should represent completed projects and will be blind reviewed for acceptance and in competition. All individual paper submissions will be considered for the selected award category — faculty-authored, graduate student-authored, and undergraduate student-authored. To qualify as a student paper, the paper must have been written by the student (no faculty co-authors). Students who plan to graduate in 2019 may submit student papers completed while they were students even if they will be graduated before the dates of the conference. CCA welcomes papers of any methodology and citation style.

Paper Sessions: Paper sessions are sessions including at least 4 papers prepared for presentation and centered around a common theme. Paper sessions proposals should include an abstract for the session followed by a list of the paper titles, authors, and short abstracts for each included paper. Full papers need not be submitted for review under this type of submission.

Panel Sessions: Panel sessions are discussion, roundtable, or alternate format sessions. Panel session proposals should include the topic to be discussed and a list of the panelists that will participate in the presentation.

GIFTS INC: Great Ideas for Teaching Students in the Carolinas. CCA welcomes submissions of teaching and learning activities that have been tested in the classroom. GIFTS presentations are meant to be short presentations of teaching techniques, activities, or semester-long projects that engage students in the teaching and learning process. Proposals should include a title, a list of courses that could use the activity, a brief description of the purpose of the activity and directions for completing the activity in the classroom.

Undergraduate Poster Session: New for the conference this year is the Undergraduate Poster Session. The Undergraduate Poster Session provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to present their research and engage in conversations about their scholarship and future research topics with faculty and fellow students in a fluid session. Undergraduate poster sessions can be any of the following categories: research paper, case study, applied research project, campaign, film, or applied, digital, or performance project.

Poster session proposals should include an abstract of 300 words or fewer, with the type of poster presentation (listed above) clearly stated.

All accepted presenters are expected to register for and attend the conference Sept. 27-28, 2019 in Hilton Head Island, SC. For more information about the conference, visit CCA online.
